Nigella Sativa Benefits
Nigella Sativa an immune modulator.
If you suffered or have in the past experienced a delayed or sudden food reaction, Nigella sativa oil might be of interest or help to you. The number one benefit I have experienced myself for food sensitivity relief comes from Nigella Sativa oil. I am talking relief within 10 to 30 minutes! I do not use it as an everyday supplement, but I do whenever I need support for my immune system. The top cause of food sensitivity is usually related to possible gut infections, autoimmune disorders, lack of proper stomach acid to digest foods, and purify them. To heal properly, the person will need to work on the root cause of the food sensitivities, but Nigella sativa can help you quell the fire of a skin or systemic reaction within a short time. If you have ever had a skin reaction due to something you ate or touched, you know it’s sudden, hot as fire, itchy, and leaves you frightened. Nigella sativa works by modulating the pathways between Th1 and Th2. In other words, it cools the skin reaction quickly by balancing the immune system (Hossain, Aftab & Saifullah, MD).
Other benefits are immune modulators for autoimmune disorders, and it may reduce high blood pressure and help with sleep; hair loss; neurological disorders like anxiety, epilepsy, Parkinson; viral, bacterial, fungal, and parasitic infections like malaria. It may possible help move the blood, helping improve oxygen and cell nutrition uptake, especially in cases of malnourished red blood cells. It also helps with skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis, inflammation, digestive issues, and pancreatitis.
Dosage is based on weight and health conditions. The oil works the fastest and is best, but can grind the seeds and add them to foods. I add the seeds to my homemade breads inside and as a topping, about 1/2 to 1 tsp. for extra nutrition. I have used the oil, only as needed for one or two days for about 10 years, which is not that often.
Please note that Nigella sativa is not for anaphylaxis reactions, a life-threatening allergic reaction. Common triggers are foods like peanuts, latex, and medications. If you are experiencing anaphylactic shock, call 9-11 and get immediate help.
